Paperback, 160 pages, published 2002. Illustrated with color photos and graphics.
This copy is pre-owned with a couple of cosmetic defects. One corner of the front cover got ripped and shows signs of a water stain (see all photos), but this area has been repaired with tape and is barely noticeable from the outside. The binding is still tight, all pages are intact, and the pages themselves are clean--no writing or highlighting.
We find great joy in watching the little brown bats that visit us on humid summer nights, and this field guide would be perfect for a budding bat lover ๐ฆ ๐ฅฐ Bats are such an important part of the ecosystem--for instance DID YOU KNOW they can eat up to 1000 mosquitoes per hour? ๐ฆ ๐ฝ๏ธ ๐
"This is a simple-to-use guide that covers 45 bat species in North America and will enable readers of all ages to identify the most common species.
"Contains:
- A user-friendly color tab index for quick reference
- Full-color photographs of each species
- Information about the benefits of bats
- Tips on the best times to view bats
- Plans for building a bat house and other ways to attract bats
- Range maps
- Details on habitat needs, bat biology and life cycle, food preferences, and more"
๐ง NOTE: If the photos show wonky patterns for you the way they do for me, this is just an annoying moire effect made by the screen or web browser. I can't seem to get rid of that, but the actual images in the book don't have any weird ripples and are printed just fine. ๐
