A stunning Japanese lacquerware box with a maki-e design of a floral and leaves. This was used for storing documents, letters or important papers in the Japanese culture. This is a type of lacquerware that originated in the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture. The design is accomplished using gold and silver powder applied to the lacquer surface. This has the red seal probably indicating the artist. It measures 7.5" X 5.5" X 1". There is a few light nics unseen from the exterior and some scratches but overall in great vintage condition. It most likely dates to the mid-century. A simple and stunning decor piece wherever placed! Thanks for looking!
