This means that you can't control the unit from your phone and can't monitor the air quality levels.. HOWEVER.. the unit works on automatic after you plug it in the green light will blink and the unit will go through the different fan speeds depending on the odors it detects! I got a few for myself and I've been using it for months now like this and it works terrific, really a great unit even without the app control..
