According to the Vintage Fashion Guild, “Geiger Tyrol is a traditional Austrian clothing maker, started in 1906 by Barbara Geiger. She adapted traditional Tyrolean knit patterns and, using wool acquired locally from farmers, started a cottage industry. By the 1950s, the company was well established and was chosen to outfit the Austrian ski team in 1954. The development for which Geiger is best known, the Tyrolean Walk Jacket, came about in 1957. Before that time, walk jackets were knit two sizes too large, and then boiled to shrink the jacket to a proper fit. Geiger developed a boiled wool fabric that could be boiled first, then cut out in the correct size.
