This glazed stoneware plate from North Eagle Pottery measures 8-1/2 inches in diameter and features a rich brown glazed bird amongst water and air imagery on a natural glazed tan clay base. Some feathered blue glaze creates a frame around the art and a hole at the back allows for display. Thrown on a potter’s wheel in Santa Rosa, California, the plate is high fired stoneware and is microwave and oven safe. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or signs of use.
About North Eagle Pottery
Wayne Reynolds is known for wheel thrown functional stoneware that is either carved and glazed or decorated with images from nature and then given a clear glaze coat.
Reynolds major influence was Marguerite Wildenhain with whom he studied for several summers at Pond Farm in Santa Rosa, California and who remained a mentor. Reynolds lived and worked for a ‘few’ years in Chile where he learned to locate, clean and mix his clay as well as manufacture his own glazes from ash and minerals available in nature and build his kiln.
Upon his return from Chili, Reynolds met and married the potter and sculptor, Caryn Fried. Reynolds and Fried shared a studio for over 30 years. They signed their pieces North Eagle Pottery.
Unfortunately, the North Eagle Pottery studio perished in the California Glass Fire on Sept 28th, 2020.
