Handmade in Africa Colorful Wooden Necklace

Vibrant beaded necklace with a mix of colors. Perfect for adding a pop of color to any outfit. This necklace was made in Africa - I believe Nigeria by the natives. It is made from wood with exception of the 2 oblong green which are plastic. Each bead they hand paint different designs & colors - the light reflecting off of them is their choice at sharing many years of history. They sell these along the side of the road to tourists & others who are not native. The tradition is passed down from generation to generation. They are strung on rope - even the spacers between beads is wood. The plastic oblong are expensive for them to purchase - so the more plastic beads the more costly the item. It is truly beautiful the swirls of metallic paint which also increases the value & cost. I was given this by the wife of a US military officer and she told me the story and was extremely proud of the native artwork. She said they sell them in their roadside markets - it takes many weeks to prepare for the Market Day. I have worn ( back when I was younger ) it backwards & received many compliments.
