This is a vintage Dorothy Okumoto porcelain bud vase, signed and titled “Ginger bud lei and hibiscus”. The vase is a collectible, handcrafted piece made in Hawaii by the late artist Dorothy Okumoto (1915-1995). It is made of white porcelain and features hand-sculpted Ginger buds forming a draping blue lei, accented with a beautiful pink hibiscus. What makes this piece unique are the brightly colored flowers. The pieces I have seen with raised flowers are totally white, with a faint hint of yellow in the center of plumeria flowers - which usually are the same color as the vase. I have one of those vases also, and have included a photo of the two vase’s together for your reference. This is an absolutely unique and fabulous piece of this wonderful artist’s collection.
