Exquisite handmade bedspread in the Rose Bower crochet pattern (1954). Six-inch squares of white cotton have a 3D pink rosette at center, surrounded by sprigs of green to square the circle. The rosettes alternate with solid white squares in a checkerboard that has plenty of breathing room. Pure fresh springtime air.
This is the finest example of the pattern I've seen online. When I found it, from a dealer in Lawrence, Kansas, the artist's expression of love, optimism and sheer technical skill just broke my heart. I hung it museum-style draped over a thick dowel, to cover a large wall. It warmed the room and my heart every time I looked up. Now I must downsize for a move.
I do not know when the bedspread was made, but it is in excellent clean condition and appears to have been lightly used. Since leaving my wall, it has been gently machine washed, wrapped in a sheet to prevent snagging. It came to me with three faint reddish stains of 1-2": at center and bottom right (last two photos), and somewhere on the left.
The bedspread is all cotton, per the dealer (and feels that way, crisp and natural). Measures just shy of 8' wide by 9' long laid flat, and if draped over something will stretch to at least that size. The fringe on three sides is 3 inches wide, with tangles that can be separated by hand. Here bedspread is laid on a floral sheet, if you see any other colors peeking through.
