Antique Victorian Gilt Metal Pedestal Compote With Cut Glass Dish c. 1890

Condition: Very good antique condition. Structurally sound with original gilt metal patina throughout. Age-appropriate oxidation visible on the underside, consistent with late 19th-century construction. Cut glass dish is intact with no visible chips or cracks noted on inspection. A refined late Victorian pedestal compote, dating to approximately 1880–1910, featuring a richly ornamented gilt metal base and a removable deep-cut pressed glass dish. The base is decorated with classical acanthus and foliate motifs, rosette medallions, scrolling supports, and paw feet — hallmarks of high-quality decorative metalwork. The glass dish displays a bold radial prism pattern designed to catch and reflect light beautifully and is secured with a traditional threaded metal mount, a correct construction method for authentic Victorian compotes and tazzas. Originally intended as a table centerpiece for fruit, sweets, or floral arrangements, this piece also works beautifully today as a decorative accent for a sideboard or vanity display. Its elegant proportions give it strong visual presence without overwhelming a space.
