1955 Ronson 'Decor' UFO Table Lighter, Working. Very scarce Ronson "Decor" table lighter; a veritable MCM lighter with futuristic design styles influential of the Atomic era, Eames furniture design, and space exploration. The name DECOR is no accident: this lighter was designed with a transparent plastic dome that lifts off so you can install whatever you want below it to create your own design on the lighter - such as a piece of material to match your drapes. We've only ever seen a few variations of this Decor; this one features a colorful cloth pattern of pink and blues. Manufactured for only about three years at best, the Ronson 'Decor' is a pedestal table lighter raised upon three brass legs. Being a petrol lighter this special Ronson 'Essex' fitment employs a traditional "petrol & flint" wick lighting system for hassle-free service. The lighter's insert is removable from the body in order to change the flint, and to fill with lighter fluid. The underside is stamped "Ronson Decor. Newark, N.J. U.S.A. U.S. Patent D-175-564". This patent (USD175564) was granted in 1955. Measures about 4" x 4" x 3" tall. TESTED, WORKING: We inspected and cleaned the mechanics, this lighter strikes a nice spark. All it needs is some modern lighter fluid, which you'll need to add yourself (this lighter ships 'dry'). CONDITION: A wonderful specimen!
