Damascene Fan-Shaped Earrings Sterling Silver

Exquisitely detailed apanese motifs, with golden pagodas and flowers. Screwback closures. Stamped Sterling on back and Silver on the head of the screws. Unique combination of inlay and enamel techniques. Note that there is loss of black enamel. Please refer to photos as they are part of the description. Damascene involves carbonizing steel to black then etching designs. The designs are inlaid with gold (and occasionally silver). Fine artisan pieces are usually inlaid with real gold. Toledo, Spain, is the traditional "home" of Damascene. Toledoware is a style of Damascene that has raised rather than etched designs. Popular motifs are geometric designs and Renaissance designs with birds, flowers, etc.
