This example retains its original factory-sealed construction (no screws, no rivets), confirming correct mid-1970s production rather than a later reproduction. The mechanism functions as intended: the clown pops cleanly and the music plays. The softer tone is typical of sealed plastic jack-in-the-box toys from this era and does not indicate a defect.
