Italian Faience Majolica Pottery Coffee Pot with Talleyrand quote
Dimensions:
6.25" tall and 4" in diameter.
Materials: Ceramic
Our Grandmother collected Majolica in the 1930's to 1950's. We have several more listings of her collection. Although this was made in Italy, it showcases a French phrase on the top of this vessel which reads: "Black as the Devil/ Hot as Hell/ Pure as an Angel/ Sweet as Love". Coined by Talleyrand who was an incredibly successful French diplomat whose coffee quote was used a lot. The FF on the bottom may be for Florence, or could be the artist signature.
It features a bohemian style floral motif including Fleur-de-Lis and a pair of Phoenix or Dragons, with tones of spring green, cobalt blue, sunny yellow and soft burnt orange. There are small chips around the spout, cosmetic hairline crack at the top of the handle and some surface chips (see picture).
