Bing & Grondahl was started in 1853 and produced fine porcelain in Copenhagen until 1987 when they were bought out by their rival, Royal Copenhagen. Bing & Grondahl produced the world’s first Christmas plate in 1895 - Royal Copenhagen didn’t release their first plate until 1908.
This antique Bing & Grondahl plate from 19134 features a view of Amalienborg Palace with the statue of King Frederick V in front. Earlier plates like this have a subtle, greyish-blue coloring, unlike the modern plates which are a more vibrant, cobalt blue. This measures approximately 7 inches wide and is in excellent condition for its age (see photos).
