No, Elvis did not wear an Alfred Shaheen dress ... but he wore a red Shaheen aloha shirt on the album cover of "Blue Hawaii"! The craze for all things tropical and Pacific Islands is one that servicemen brought back with them from World War II -- aloha shirts, tiki bars, and exotic cocktails. Designer and printmaker Alfred Shaheen began incorporating Asian Pacific and Hawai'ian motifs into men's shirts and women's dresses -- soon carried in high-end stores like Saks and Bergdorf Goodman. This beauty is in textured red fabric with a muted silver print, and lined. The vintage size is 16, which corresponds to a M-L. Measurements: length 40 inches; shoulder 17 inches; the sleeve -- translucent and unlined -- is 23 inches with a double-buttoned cuff; the front placket is 18 inches long with five self-covered buttons. Next to last photo shows armhole example of detail of lining. Note -- there are no shadings or discolorations in this dress; anything that looks like that is because of the light. There are string-thin belt loops but no belt, so this can be worn with or without your own belt -- a silver chain belt would look very smart with this. From a smoke-free, dog-loving home.
