Kees van Dongen is a Dutch Born Painter, but was later in his life naturalised French. The Picture, on which the jacket is based, was taken in 1952. By that time he was already liven several decades in Montmartre, Paris. It is believed that his Double breasted chore jacket, these are not very common, was purchased in the City of Paris.
The small Coin watch pocket on the lower left chest, which is not present on the original jacket, but is a hommage to the Japanese National Railroad jackets of the 1950's.
Cohérence really shines when it comes to their fabrics, this is their cotton-linen Chevron cloth. The fabric whose warp is linen and the weft is cotton. This construction keeps the sense of the dry touch of linen but saves the horizontal tension so that the fabric doesn't crease as much and retains it's silhouette nicely.
