NWT-A richly illustrated biography of a treasured Chicago building. In 1961, Richard Nickel, John Vinci, and David Norris spent six months salvaging parts of the Garrick Theater, an Adler & Sullivan design in Chicago's theater district. The theater, replaced by a parking garage, sparked the city's historic preservation movement. Built in 1892 as the Schiller Building, it featured elaborate ornamentation and colorful stenciling, a signature of Louis Sullivan. 'Reconstructing the Garrick' details efforts to save its design and explores its history through photos, essays, interviews, drawings, and memorabilia. It emphasizes its ornamentation and includes a 72-page facsimile of Nickel's salvage workbook.
