Antique stunning Westclox patented in October 1906 and produced in April of 1920. Brass heavy clock can be dated by the metal stamp to verify its production time and date. Made by “Western Clock Co." In 1920, the company was still officially known as the Western Clock Company. They shortened the company name to just "Westclox" later, though they had been using "Westclox" as a brand name on dials since around 1910. This clock does not work but is an absolute stunning piece of history. The Symbolism: "The Spirit of Time" The woman on the clock is an allegorical figure, common in the Art Nouveau style (popular from roughly 1890–1920). • The Pose: She is depicted kneeling and effortlessly holding up the clock face. In this era of art, this pose typically symbolizes "Time" or "Dawn" (holding up the sun). • The Style: Notice the flowing, organic lines of the frame that look like vines or waves. This is the signature of Art Nouveau, which focused on nature and feminine beauty. She isn't a specific mythological character (like Athena), but rather an idealized "Muse" meant to add elegance to a functional object.
