- Motto Ware or Cottage Ware Covered Jam Jar or Miniature Sugar Bowl - The front features a colorful cottage surrounded by trees - The motto, "There’s No Wealth but Life" is incised on the back - Lid is brown with a blue stripe and an indent for a spoon. - Colors: brown, green, blue, light brown, olive green - Hand Made - Height: about 2 3/4" - Diameter: about 2 1/2” - Mottoware or Motto Ware is red clay pottery mostly produced in the Torquay area of Devon, England and sold as seaside souvenirs. They were produced from the 1860s through the 1960s and are highly collectible. Some people only collect those with cottage decoration. CONDITION: Very good vintage condition. Usually you find these with chips on them but this appears to be in very good shape. No chips or flakes and colors are vivid.
