Rare find for the vintage sports collector! An authentic Wright & Ditson "Longwood" model wooden tennis racquet, dating back to the late 1890s or early 1900s. Founded in 1871, Wright & Ditson was the premier name in early American tennis, and the "Longwood" was one of their most celebrated championship-tier models.
Key Features:
Manufacturer: Wright & Ditson (Boston, Mass.)
Model: Longwood (Named after the famous Longwood Cricket Club in Boston).
Construction: Solid ash/hardwood frame with a classic concave wedge at the throat.
Grip: Rare original checkered cork inlay grip, highly sought after by collectors for its unique texture and historical accuracy.
Details: Features the iconic arched "Wright & Ditson / Boston" stamp.
The checkered cork inlay grip. This was a premium feature on only a few Wright & Ditson models (Sears, Country Club, Pettitt, and Longwood). Many survived with the cork damaged or replaced; this one appears to be in excellent condition with a little areas of decay shown in pictures.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition for its age. The wood frame remains sturdy with a beautiful natural patina. Cork grip shows minor wear consistent with age but remains largely intact. A stunning display piece for a study, sports room, or gallery wall.
