This is an antique Victorian or Art Deco-style brooch featuring a large, faceted amber glass stone set in an ornate metal frame. SEE CONDITION NOTES.
Design Style: Commonly described as Art Deco or Victorian Revival. It features a central large faceted stone—often referred to as topaz glass or honey-colored rhinestone—set in an intricate filigree or scrollwork brass setting.
Possible Origin: Pieces of this style were frequently produced in Czechoslovakia (Czech filigree) during the early to mid-20th century, particularly before WWII.
Approximate Age: Most similar items date back to the 1900s–1920s.
Condition: vintage loss and wear. Older rollover clasp had verdigris- entire brooch gently cleaned in delicate jeweley cleaner and dried. With metal wear/loss, the clasp is NOT fully functional and operates more like the older C-clasp. See photos. This means that to wear this brooch, you would need to repair clasp or trust gravity, like C-clasps operate.
May have gold wash- leaves a gold streak in 10K acid test.
One of the little side stones is brighter yellow and the other, darker. Both side stones show wear- one seems to have loss and is flatter than the other. The faceted center stone shows surface wear at certain angles. Stones do register on low glass range on PGT2.
A BID ON THIS antique ITEM is indicative of your acknowledgement that you have read this description, viewed photos, had the opportunity to ask any questions. It is NOT in new or like new condition.
