YES - STILL AVAILABLE!!! 🤩 VINTAGE Sputnik Pendant with an Iolite gemstone - Circa 1960s Gold-Plated OVER Sterling Silver. I purchased it from an antique store and was told it was a gold plate over sterling silver; however, I cannot find any stamps on the pendant to indicate the metal content. One small Iolite (purple blue) cabochon gemstone at the center. HEAVY! Almost 20 grams! Very well-made pendant. This pendant is gold-plated over Sterling Silver; however, I do not know the karat of the gold plate. The gold plate has become dull over the years, but still looks like yellow gold…I do not see any silver showing through. The bale is quite large and would accommodate a variety of chains. Inspired by the Soviet launch of the Sputnik 1 satellite in October 1957. These pendants were popularized in the 1960s, when jewelry was a direct response to the "space age" fascination following the 1957 satellite launch. Condition: VINTAGE -there are visible signs of wear (nicks & scratches) to the pendant (please see photos), nothing too severe, and lots of life left in this beauty! Pendant ONLY.
