Antique late-Victorian geometric brooch, circa 1880s–1890s, made of gilt brass with mechanical / aesthetic-movement style detailing. Features two hand-cut clear paste stones in closed-back settings and one red glass stone accent.
This piece has a later (early 1900s–1920s) safety chain and stick-pin attachment added for secure wear. The addition is period-appropriate for early 20th c. jewelry modifications and does not affect the integrity of the brooch itself.
The brooch retains its original Victorian C-clasp and elongated pin. Beautifully detailed with sawtooth borders, curled gear-like accents, and mixed metal tones typical of aesthetic-movement design. A unique and eye-catching antique piece.
Condition:
• Very good antique condition with age-appropriate patina
• Clear paste stones show typical Victorian foil aging
• Red stone is bright and secure
• Safety chain/stick pin is an early later addition
• Pin and clasp work properly
Approx. Size:
• Brooch: ~1.5 in. across (visually larger due to layered design)
• Chain: ~2.25 in.
• Stick pin: ~2.75 in.
A wonderful collectible Victorian brooch and an unusual example of mechanical/industrial-style design.
