The pads have a small slit to remove. Great question, thank you for asking. I have added photos of the cups.

Oh WOW!!! Thank you sssoooo much. I really appreciate it! We are kindred spirits. Our 1982 CJ5 was right off the car lot. We went through Rubicon that first summer and yes, became totally addicted. We took our 5 week old daughter for the first time in 1986 and our son at 9 days old in 1987. Sounds crazy now that I think about it, but then, it was just a normal thing.
