Mimi di N belt buckles were created by Princess Mimi di Niscemi, an Italian-born, classically trained jewelry designer. Her New York-based company, Mimi di N Inc., operated from 1962 until 1997. Born in Palermo, Italy, she moved to the U.S. to study at the Philadelphia School of Industrial Arts. Before launching her own label, she worked at esteemed fashion and jewelry houses, including Schiaparelli and Arnold Scaasi. While known for abstract designs, she also designed playful, highly detailed novelty buckles (e.g., animals, shells, Celtic knots, and seasonal themes). Her dramatic statement pieces were favored by high-profile figures such as Jacqueline Kennedy and the Duchess of Windsor.
