Exceptional and highly collectible vintage International Watch Co. Schaffhausen (IWC) oversized manual wind wristwatch dating to approximately 1943.
This is a rare WWII-era IWC featuring an original silvered minimalist dial with applied Arabic numerals at 12 and 6, faceted applied hour markers, elegant dauphine hands, and center seconds configuration. The watch displays outstanding mid-century modern styling with superb wrist presence.
The watch is housed in its original Staybrite stainless steel case measuring approximately 37.1 mm excluding crown — an unusually large and highly desirable size for a wristwatch of this era. Oversized steel IWC watches from the early 1940s are increasingly difficult to find, especially in such well-preserved condition.
Powered by its original Swiss IWC manual wind movement from the legendary Caliber 83 family, widely regarded as one of the finest and most reliable hand-wound movements produced by IWC during the mid-20th century.
Movement serial number:
* 1,259,000
Dating production to approximately 1943.
Case serial number:
* 1,301,717
The movement is exceptionally clean and beautifully finished, featuring Geneva-style striping, gold jewel settings, and high-grade traditional Swiss construction. The watch is currently running very strongly with excellent power reserve, reportedly capable of running for several days once fully wound.
