The base is a crisp banker stripe — Admiral Blue and white, the narrow even stripe of a dress shirt — and down the front placket runs a deep ruffle, cut so that the stripe turns on the bias and spirals as the ruffle falls. It is the equestrian-and-boardroom register Ralph Lauren built a house on: the discipline of the shirting stripe, softened by the romance of the jabot. The cut is a proper tailored shirt. A point collar, a full button placket, and long sleeves finished with high turn-back cuffs — the deep folded cuff of a dress shirt, here turned to show the stripe. The hem is a curved shirttail, made to tuck. The cotton has real weight and body, which is what lets the ruffle hold its shape and fall rather than wilt; a thinner cloth would not carry the jabot the same way. One observation on condition: the shirt shows very minor, even fading consistent with gentle laundering over time — the soft mellowing of a well-kept cotton shirt rather than any flaw. It is otherwise in excellent condition, the stripe clean, the ruffle and cuffs intact.
