Beautiful antique hand-carved shell cameo brooch featuring an unusual bearded male portrait, possibly depicting Christ, a saint, or a classical figure. The cameo is intricately carved with excellent detail in the hair, beard, and drapery.
The mounting has tested as solid 10K gold on the frame. The pin stem does not test as solid gold and may be a period replacement or a different alloy, which is common in antique brooches. The cameo is set in a delicate openwork gold-tone frame with an early-style pin closure.
This piece belonged to my great-aunt, who was born in 1898, and is believed to date from the early 20th century.
Details:
● Antique shell cameo brooch
● Hand-carved shell
● Male religious/classical portrait
● Frame tests as 10K gold
● Pin stem does not test as solid gold
● Weight: 2.78 grams
● Estimated date: circa 1900–1920
