American Frohse
Anatomical Chart, specifically Plate No. 7, which focuses on the anatomy of the head and neck. Originally based on German illustrations by Franz Frohse, this specific edition was revised and augmented by Max Brödel, often called the "father of modern medical illustration," for publisher A.J. Nystrom & Co. around 1918.
The chart provides five distinct views to illustrate the complex structures of the head: Today, they are highly sought after by collectors for their scientific accuracy and vintage aesthetic.
The Artist: Max Brödel is considered the father of modern medical illustration.
• The Date: He finalized and signed these revised figures in 1919. While it looks like a
personalized hand-signature, it was etched directly into the master lithographic printing plates by the publisher, A.J. Nystrom & Co. See photo signature.
