Add a rare and charming piece of Japanese ceramic history to your collection with this matching pair of vintage Shigaraki Ware (Shigaraki-yaki) tokkuri sake bottles.
These bottles are artisanally sculpted into the whimsical shape of traditional money bags or hemp rice sacks, complete with actual twine/hemp rope tied snugly around the narrow necks. They feature ergonomic thumb indents (dimples) pressed into the sides, providing a perfect, comfortable grip for pouring.
The glaze is a stunning example of rustic Japanese studio pottery—a thick, specked cream and warm off-white Kohiki glaze with tiny iron-spot bursts and crackles peeking through, allowing the coarse, mineral-rich Shigaraki clay base to show its natural character.
The set comes nestled in its original traditional Tomobako (wooden presentation box) featuring bold Japanese calligraphy.
