A pair of wheel-thrown stoneware goblets in a two-glaze design. The contrast between the metallic dark exterior and the richly glazed cobalt blue interior is the standout feature. The blue glaze pools beautifully at the rim of each cup with iridescent depth that shifts in different lighting.
Wheel-thrown stoneware, two-piece chalice construction (cup and stem thrown separately and joined)
• Cobalt blue high-gloss glaze interior with natural pooling and iridescent finish
• Dark gunmetal glaze exterior
• Repeating flower motif stamped decoration
• Foot: Natural terracotta tan
Condition:
Both goblets are in nice vintage condition. The unglazed gritty terracotta base is original to the construction, not damage. No chips or cracks noted. No maker's signature.
Note: Variations in glaze sheen and reflectivity are natural characteristics of the high-gloss cobalt glaze and are not damage.
These are functional drinking goblets with real artistic presence — the kind of handmade work that came out of the American studio pottery movement of the 1970s–1990s.
Please see pictures for condition and measurements. They hold approximately 4 oz. of liquid.
Note about color: The glaze colors can appear differently depending on your screen and lighting conditions. To my eye the body reads as glazed in a rich gunmetal or iron color with a cobalt blue interior, but others may see more gray or black tones. Please message me with any color questions before purchasing. Thanks for looking!!
