Vintage Demitasse Cups and Saucers Morimura Brothers (Noritake)
Very Nice Vintage Condition. May have a few marks because of age. I did not see any chips or cracks.
7 Sets of Demitasse Cups and Saucers. 3 Saucers have a slightly different design but you have to look close to notice
These.pieces have "M" in a wreath" backstamp with "JAPAN" written below it. This mark is characteristic of Noritake porcelain, specifically dating after 1921.
Saucers measure 4 3/4 in diameter. Cups are 2 1/4 in tall
The "M" in a wreath is the well-known mark of the Morimura Brothers, the company that founded Noritake Co. Limited in Japan.
"JAPAN": The use of "Japan" rather than "Nippon" in the mark indicates that the piece was manufactured for export, likely to the United States, after 1921. Prior to this, pieces exported to the U.S. were typically marked "Nippon" due to the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890.
Therefore, the item is a piece of vintage Noritake porcelain made in Japan, likely dating from the period after 1921 and before World War II, when direct export to the US was halted.
I always pack things securely and safe.
