Vintage Turned Wood Candlestick

This mixed wood candlestick is made from a technique called laminated or segmented woodturning. Instead of shaping the piece from a single log, multiple blocks of different wood species are permanently glued together under high pressure to create a single striped pattern block before it is carved on the lathe. It appears to be three woods - light honey wood like cherry or maple, rich brown accents of mahogany or walnut, and the dark thin stripes are dense exotic woods such as wenge or ebony.
