This vintage pleated tartan mini skirt is a timeless piece that you’ll wear for years to come. Set against a brilliant red background, the crisscross pattern is primarily black and indigo with a touch of green. It’s a classic wrap-around skirt with one button closure on the inside, and a second on the outside. The vertical edge of the skirt is finished with a subtle fringe and fastened with a traditional Scottish kilt pin.
The fabric looks and feels like wool, but as there is no tag, this cannot be confirmed.
The stated size 3-4 is an approximation, as there is no size tag; it measures 18” (46cm) long; the waist is 12” (30.5cm) across as photographed.
The ILGWU Canada tag suggests this piece was made between1968-84.
As noted on the Vintage North Blog, “The ILGWU stands for one of the largest labor unions in the United States, one of the first US unions to have a primarily female membership, and a key player in the labor history of the 1920s and 1930s. The letters mean The International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union. The ILGWU label can be found in vintage clothing made in both Canada and the USA. It is a good marker to look for when buying, collecting vintage clothing.”
