Authentic and lovingly restored late 1930s to early 1940s bias-cut rayon satin nightgown features: body-skimming bias silhouette, gathered bust, deep V neckline front and back, delicate floral jacquard woven throughout. A later hand-dyed rework in peach, apricot, butter yellow, sage and dusty rose gave it an ethereal watercolor effect, still feels true to the original Art Deco elegance.
Neckline finished with an openwork embroidered lace inset and narrow picot trim, while bias construction allows the fabric to drape beautifully sans closures. Really exceptional pre-war era survivor.
Condition
This piece has been thoughtfully preserved but should be considered wearable with care due to the inherent fragility of pre-war rayon satin.
Structural wear includes:
Hand reinforcement at the bust seam and underarm
Period repair to the openwork lace/tatting at the center neckline
The peach, yellow, green, and rose coloration is later hand-dyed rework and is not staining or discoloration. It has become part of the garment's history and creates a beautiful painterly finish.
