Rare Vintage Ballou Reg’d Modular "City Scene" 4-Piece Brooch Pin with Original Bergdorf Goodman Luxury Retail Tag
Overview:
Up for sale is a remarkably rare, highly collectible mid-century "build-a-scene" novelty brooch by B.A. Ballou & Co. (stamped Ballou Reg'd).
This unique modular 4-piece pin features an intricate gold-toned urban landscape layered over a perforated manhole cover base disk.
What sets this specific estate find apart is its incredible pristine provenance. It comes complete with its original, authentic string inventory tag from the iconic luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman. Multi-line stamped inventory codes are fully legible on the vintage label.
Design & Mechanics:
Ballou is celebrated for their patented interchangeable novelty jewelry lines. The components on this pin—including a classic retro automobile, a skyscraper building, a "1500 Union Ave" street sign, and an octagonal "STOP" sign—can be unscrewed or repositioned. Because these tiny components were meant to be detached, complete 4-piece sets are incredibly difficult to find intact.
