Vintage Hungarian Matyo Embroidered Fringed Folk Apron Unisex

Vintage Hungarian Matyo Embroidered Fringed Traditional Peasant Folk Apron These apron are part of the traditional folk dress of both the men and women of Mezokovesd in the Matyo region of northeastern Hungary. This apron consists of a rectangular panel of black cotton with a slight sheen. Richly hand embroidered center portion—embroidered directly on the fabric (not a separate piece sewn on to the apron). All other stitching is by machine. Floral embroidery in traditional Matyo style, followed by cross hatch embroidery, then another row of embroidered flowers. Below the embroidery is a panel of elaborately knotted long fringe, hand stitched on to the cotton base. Ribbon tie in casing waistband Measures approx. 24.5 x 28” In good condition with some breaks in the cross hatch stitching, as shown.
