This is a fabulous cartwheel or platter hat from the fashionable 1950s'. The hat is made of velour on top, and a shiny fabric on the bottom and inside of the cri=own. The almost flat crown is surrounded by a wide brim which is edged in black grosgrain. The crown is also trimmed with a braided band of black fabric, which ends in a bow at the back. There is a "cap under the crown with pointy sides, meant to keep the hat in place on top of the head. This is a simply gorgeous look!
Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. Alternatively, ‘pancake’, ‘platter’, ‘mushroom’ or ‘cart wheel’ hats sat flat atop the head reviving turn of the century styles.
There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation.
Please keep in mind that you are buying a vintage hat, not new nor perfect! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, furs, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
