The now famous poppy pattern was designed by Maija Isola who designed it against the wishes of Armi Ratia who had announced to the world that Marimekko would never produce or include floral patterns in their repertoire. Little did Ms. Ratia know that the poppy pattern would become recognized worldwide and that it would become one of Marimekko’s most favorite patterns of all time.
