For sale is a beautiful vintage "The Gem" manual pencil sharpener manufactured by the Automatic Pencil Sharpener Co. (APSCO) of Chicago, USA.
This is the desirable, early industrial model featuring a single helical cutter mechanism rather than the later dual-cutter design.
Condition Details:
Mechanism: The hand crank rotates smoothly, and the internal planetary ring gears lock together properly. The single cutting cylinder shows minor graphite residue but retains well-defined, functional blades.
Body & Aesthetics: The green cast-iron housing features a stunning, authentic heavy patina with natural paint chipping and surface oxidation along the rims.
Has a slight bend in frame see pictures
The original yellow celluloid shield is present with clear text, though it exhibits a typical vertical hairline crack running through the letter "G".
Base: Flared cast-iron mounting base is solid with original mounting screw holes intact. See pictures for more detailed information
Item is sold as-is in its original vintage condition. Perfect addition to any antique office collection, industrial decor, or schoolhouse display!
