Stunning Vintage Zuni Turquoise Needlepoint Squash Blossom Earrings – Signed "A" (Attributed to Alice Quam)
Up for sale is a beautiful pair of authentic, mid-century Zuni Native American cluster earrings. These feature meticulously hand-cut needlepoint turquoise stones set in fine, uniform sterling silver sawtooth bezels, framed by crisp silver droplets mimicking a squash blossom style.
Maker's Mark & Provenance:The reverse side is hand-stamped with a single capital "A" hallmark. This specific early-period initial stamp and the incredible precision of the geometric silver work strongly point to legendary Zuni master jeweler Alice Quam during the 1950s–1960s before she adopted her later "A.Q." signature.
Stone Quality:The natural turquoise exhibits an elegant, aged color variegation shifting beautifully from a bright sky blue to a soft seafoam teal. Under close inspection, the stones display a classic waxy porcelain luster with faint organic matrix flecks. No missing or loose stones.
Condition & Modifications:
Condition: Very good vintage condition with an exceptional, deep, unpolished natural patina that collectors love.
Hardware: Originally made as clip-on earrings, they have been historically converted to pierced posts for modern wear. The original lower clip baseplates remain attached and have been split down the center—a classic historical modification done by previous owners for custom earlobe comfort.
