Edwardian Double Albert Watch Fob Necklace & Cartouche Sterling Silver HEAVY 16"

Once in a while, something special comes along...i.e. this vintage antique Edwardian Double Albert watch chain and cartouche fob necklace. This beautiful piece of jewelry craftmanship has everything going on. The silver is Hallmarked on nearly every element including each chain link. Made in the Jewelry Quarter of Birmingham by the highly regarded British silversmiths Turner & Simpson: clearly Hallmarked on shield with Lion Passant (British sterling silver), Anchor (Birmingham Assay Office), stylized letter "U" in shield w/ pointed base (1919), and T&S. Lion Passant on each chain link, and B&S on dog clips. The T-bar is substantial and affixed to the chain w/ large circular links. The cartouche (shield) is a refined centerpiece with hand-chased accents. The outer sterling silver border frames the shield in a distinct heart shape, topped with elegant openwork scrolling acanthus leaves. The fine stippling and rays surrounding the shield were individually hand-punched to create depth and catch the light. The original gold wash over the shield is faded but still evident. The shield was never engraved and remains in its original condition. The chain itself is unusual in that the links are graduated in size: narrower at the clasp and fob / T-bar, and wider at the sides. The dog clips are in excellent working order and clip together securely. Their swivel mechanism is fully intact. 99 grams of solid .925 sliver. Shipped with care in a vintage jewel box (last photo)
