WWII Royal Navy Convoy Lantern Best & Lloyd 1941 PATT 16042 Brass Ship Light

Authentic World War II-era British Royal Navy brass ship lantern, marked PATT. 16042 and believed to have been manufactured by Best & Lloyd Ltd. circa 1941. “PATT.” refers to an Admiralty Pattern number, the system used by the British Admiralty to identify standardized naval equipment. This compact, heavily constructed lantern was designed for maritime signal/navigation use rather than ordinary domestic lighting. The lantern has a substantial brass body with its original-style clear glass globe and upper hanging hooks. At just over three pounds, it has the wonderfully solid, purposeful construction expected of wartime naval equipment. The lamp was originally electric. It has been fitted at some point with a later household electrical cord/plug, and the present socket may also be a later replacement. The lamp has been tested and illuminates; however, the wiring has not been professionally inspected, so a buyer should have it evaluated before regular use. The brass retains its old patina, oxidation, surface wear and traces of previous finish/paint from decades of service and storage. It has intentionally not been aggressively polished, preserving the character of the surface.
