Vintage Taxco Two Trees Sterling Silver Cat Brooch Mexico Juan Sandoval Vázquez

Wonderful vintage Taxco, Mexico sterling silver brooch featuring two whimsical stylized cats accented with contrasting gold-tone/brass bow ties. The brooch bears the distinctive Two Trees hallmark and TS-79 registration mark associated with Mexican silversmith Juan Sandoval Vázquez / Two Trees Silversmiths of Taxco, along with sterling/Mexico markings. The TS-79 mark comes from Mexico's alphanumeric silversmith registration system, introduced around 1979–1980 to replace the earlier eagle assay system. In this hallmark: T = Taxco, Mexico S = surname initial of the registered silversmith, Sandoval 79 = registration number identifying the maker within the Taxco “S” registrations. TS-79 is attributed to Juan Sandoval Vázquez and Two Trees Silversmiths. This striking brooch has a wonderful Mexican Modernist aesthetic, with elongated geometric cats, pierced/openwork construction and contrasting bow-tie accents.
