American ballet bookRuth Eleanor HowardGeorge Balanchine
Scarce 1936 first edition of The Story of the American Ballet by Ruth Eleanor Howard, published by Ihra Publishing Company of New York. This early photographic history documents George Balanchine’s role in establishing the School of American Ballet and the American Ballet, with information about the company, dancers and repertory. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs made specifically for the book by Ralph Oggiano of the Oggiano-Ida Gallery, New York. Hardcover measures approximately 8" x 5" and contains 39 numbered pages plus preliminary leaves. Condition: Original black cloth cover has rubbing and light edge wear. Mounted paper title label is age-toned but complete and legible. Endpapers have pronounced age-related discoloration consistent with the original binder’s glue. Binding threads are visible along the front gutter. Pages show general age toning but appear clean overall, with no writing or ownership markings observed. Original dust jacket is not present. Please review all photographs closely for the exact condition. Stand not included.
