VTG MCM Florida Dolphin Souvenir Ceramic Ashtray Drip Glaze Catchall

Capture the golden age of roadside Americana with this vintage mid-century modern Florida souvenir dolphin ashtray. A classic piece of retro tobacciana and tropical coastal decor from the 1960s or 1970s, this ceramic dish features a highly dimensional, leaping dolphin sculpted right onto the rim, emerging beautifully from the textured border. The center of the dish is finished in a vibrant, high-gloss multi-color drip glaze. Bold, fluid streams of teal, emerald green, and sunny yellow pool together against a rich chocolate brown base, ensuring that no two pieces from this production era are exactly alike. The name FLORIDA is prominently embossed in raised, stylized lettering across the center basin. The underside reveals the typical unglazed red clay base, indicating its manufacture as a Japanese redware export piece, which was widely distributed across Florida gift shops, marinas, and roadside attractions during the post-war travel boom. While originally designed as an outdoor or indoor ashtray, its distinct sculpted form makes it a versatile catchall dish for modern homes. Use it on an entryway table for keys, on a desk for paperclips, or simply display it as a quirky conversation piece on a bar cart. It is in good vintage condition with bright colors and standard underglaze crazing typical of aged art pottery. Please see all images to confirm cosmetic condition.
