Vintage Schäfer & Vater figural goose pitcher/creamer, featuring the whimsical "Goose in Shawl" design. This delightful little piece depicts a goose dressed in a bonnet and shawl, with its open beak cleverly forming the pouring spout. Beautifully decorated in flowing shades of cobalt and soft blue on white porcelain, with wonderful molded and textured details throughout the bonnet, shawl, feathers, and body. The curved handle completes this unusual and highly decorative design. The underside bears the impressed Schäfer & Vater crown/star-style maker's mark along with an impressed number that appears to read 6513. Schäfer & Vater of Rudolstadt, Germany, is well known for its whimsical antique figural porcelain pieces.
