Alden loafers, model 683 in burgundy. Size 9 D/B in the Aberdeen last. The Aberdeen is the narrowest of Alden's lasts; it is considered true-to-size. In my experience they run snug in length and narrow in width. While likely satisfactory to someone who is a Brannock 9 D, these loafers may be better suited to a 9 C or 8 1/2 D. Please know your Alden sizing before purchasing. An interesting feature of these loafers are their distinctive striations, presumably an unintentional by-product of the leather’s dyeing process. Rather than a solid color, the uppers are dappled in hues of burgundy to near black. Note that the tip of the right shoe has a 1mm nick. Each shoe, additionally, has pinholes in the collars above the heel counters. A cobbler or capable enthusiast may be able to treat these issues. Otherwise the uppers are in fine condition, with only lightly moderate creasing. The soles were professionally fitted with plastic half-soles. Both soles and heels are in good condition. Treated with care these shoes will provide much use before they next need maintenance. Bick 4, Lexol leather conditioner, Saphir Medaille d’Or neutral polish, and Saphir Medaille d’Or pâte de luxe were used to restore the uppers and sole edges; the interior linings and insoles have been disinfected with Lysol.
