Charming vintage hand-embroidered pot holder keeper, estimated to date to the late 1930s–1940s. A wonderful piece of early American kitchen needlework with loads of folk-art character. Handmade from cream cotton fabric with a whimsical embroidered woman's face, blue eyes, pink lips, floral sprays, and hand-stitched “POT HOLDERS” lettering across the top. The front lifts to reveal a pocket designed for storing potholders. Finished with black blanket stitching around the edge and two small hanging rings at the top. The slightly irregular stitching and wonderfully expressive face give this piece the unmistakable personality of handmade domestic textiles from the era. A particularly sweet piece for a collection of antique kitchen textiles, folk art, cottage decor, or vintage embroidery. Approx. 8" across Vintage condition with considerable age-related discoloration, foxing and spotting throughout, as photographed. I have left it in its found condition and have not attempted to clean it. Embroidery remains colorful and displays beautifully despite its age. Estimated era: Late 1930s–1940s Material: Cotton textile with hand embroidery Construction: Handmade Size: Approx. 8" diameter A lovely little survivor with nearly a century of kitchen history behind her.
