Distinctive vintage Canadian Inuit handcrafted parka, received as a gift around 1974–75. It was commissioned from an Inuit artisan by a friend working in Churchill, Manitoba. The original bilingual label reads “HANDCRAFTED BY CANADIAN ESKIMOS / ARTISANAT ESQUIMAU CANADIEN.” The red parka features decorative embroidered floral and vine trim, a fur-trimmed hood, cuffs and hem, and a functional full-length metal Lightning zipper. Included is the original separate light-blue nylon shell, which slips over the parka but does not attach to it. The shell has decorative trim, pockets and its own functional Lightning zipper. Measurements (approximate, laid flat): * Pit to pit: 24” * Length: 30” * Sleeve: 22” Size: Approximately Medium based on measurements; no size tag. Please compare measurements with a similar garment. Condition * Red outer parka is in excellent condition overall for its age. * Fur remains in place but shows age-related matting, particularly around the lower hem and cuffs. * The coat has not been professionally cleaned. The lining and separate blue shell have light soiling in places. * A tear in the original lining near the neckline has been professionally repaired. The original lining was retained; several small holes remain. * Decorative trim on the blue shell has been professionally restitched. * Both zippers are functional. * An additional piece of fur from the original maker is included as a possible repair or replacement piece. The fur species is unknown
